First off, a huge shoutout to the Xano team for releasing Git Sync. Beside the complete overhaul of the branch difference view inside the Xano app, this syncing feature marks another milestone for anyone wanting real version control for their Xano workspaces.

What You Get With Xano’s Built-in Git Sync (Today)

One-way sync: Push your live branch from Xano to GitHub or GitLab and keep your logic (code) versioned, auditable, and backed up.

Versioned history: Every publish on the live branch is a new commit, every merge into the live branch is also a new commit. So you can audit, review. Possibly roll back changes (inside the Xano app, if backup was enabled on branch merge).

External collaboration: Share your Xano codebase with teammates or the community via familiar Git tools.

Plug into CI/CD: Once your code’s in Git, it can fit right into your existing dev tooling (testing, security, automation) Important note here is that the tooling for Xano is yet to mature.

Why using Git makes sense in general?

Complete change tracking: Know exactly who changed what, when, and why.

Branching for parallel dev: Build features and fixes side-by-side without stepping on each other’s toes. Then just rebase and continue from where you left off, including your team's changes.

Tooling integration: Reviews (+AI), CI/CD, and automation become effortless.

Disaster recovery: Your code is safely stored outside of any single platform. Which makes it possible to boot up a second instance when things go rogue.

@calycode/cli: Explore advanced Git workflows

While we celebrate Xano’s progress, we’re excited to share that our @calycode/cli already fills some of those advanced gaps:

Branch-Aware Exports: Pull the schema of any branch from your Xano workspace, thus enabling feature branching and WIP tracking, and Gitflow methodology. Combined with the .git CLI and custom output, it unlocks full git-based workflows.

Customizable Repo Output: Output your workspace to a repo structure, ready for Git commit, review, and CI/CD.

More Fine-Grained Control: Specify instance, workspace, and branch, and fetch fresh data on demand. Since you get a structured workspace, you are free to omit parts of your backend from git as you desire. Just add a .gitignore file and define the exclusion patterns.

Great for CI/CD: Integrate into your pipelines to automate business logic exports and versioning.

Example usage:

bash
$ caly-xano generate repo --instance prod --workspace myapp --branch feature-new-api --fetch --output src
# │
# ◑  Processing workspace inforamtion
# |
# ◇  Building directory structure...
# │
# ◇  Reading and parsing YAML file -> lib/workspace.yaml
# |
# ◇  Processing done!
# │
# ◇ Writing Repository to the output directory -> lib
# │
# └ Directory structure rebuilt successfully!

This flexibility means your team can maintain a true Git-based workflow, tracking all branches and experiments.

We’re grateful for Xano’s investment in pro-code workflows. If you’re looking for even more control, or need branch-aware Git integration right now, check out @calycode/cli!

@calycode, we build open, reliable, and automated workflows for Xano that empower teams with clarity, transparency, and control. Our mission: make backend development safe, collaborative, and future-ready, so every team can ship confidently and trust the process.

We have a Chrome Browser Extension for Xano to get you rolling much faster and more reliable Xano systems. If you're curious how @calycode/cli works with Xano features, check out our repo, docs or drop us a message on Discord!
